In a metropolitan area in which the transport services include metro, city and intercity buses, the implementation of a single ticket system using intelligent, rechargeable cards is a pilot experience in Spain and one which has been carried out with great success in the Autonomous Community of Valencia, where the numerous benefits of this system have been amply demonstrated.
Palma Tools has provided the Valencia Metropolitan Mobility Agency and the Generalitat Valenciana (Regional Government of Valencia) with all of the technical assistance required to extend the use of the MÓBILIS inter-operable, intelligent transport card with A>punt technology, throughout the whole of the region in addition to the three metropolitan areas of Valencia, Alicante and Castellón where it is already in operation. This rechargeable card will gradually be incorporated as a means of payment for an extensive list of public services. The support system, commissioned by the Valencia Metropolitan Mobility Agency, is based on contactless technology and has been designed by Palma Tools. It was initially used for public transport within the metropolitan area of Valencia but it is designed for the whole of the region and is currently in use in Alicante, Castellón, Benidorm, Alcoi, Teulada, Valle de los Serranosa and there are plans for it to be brought into use in other areas.

The implementation of the Móbilis System in Valencia shows the strong commitment to technology that began in 2001, with the aim of facilitating inter-operability in public transport systems. It has been put into operation jointly by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV Railway Company), the Valencia Metropolitan Mobility Agency (AVM) and the companies that form Metrobús and EMT.
At the present time the Móbilis card is interoperable with different means of public transport in Valencia (buses, metro, local trains and bicycle hire). Currently it is about to be launched as a rechargeable card for payment of taxis and it already includes tourist services and other functions.
